“Shield of Siberia “ – Festival of Medieval Military Cultures
On August 2, 2009 a heavy rain fell on the city of Omsk but that did not stop fans of the Middle Ages to gather in the square near the Tobolsky gate. The crowd was assembled for the opening of inter-Siberian Festival called the “Shield of Siberia “- a contest of medieval military cultures.
Guests arrived from different Siberian cities such as Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk and Barnaul to participate in the festival. Festival organizers prepared a fascinating program including dramatized representations and performances. Battles were staged using members of the Omsk club “Forged Men”. Activities included field battles, medieval cuisine, competitions, master-classes and much more (see the program of events below).

5. Competitions and contests for spectators
6. Ancient dance performance from studio Galianta
7. Master-class of music from Omsk School of ethnic drums
8. Master class with shares
9. Festival of ethnic music “Wild Herbs”
In summary, the event offered something of interest to all and was a big success in spite of inclement weather.
